RIR Notebook Jun 10, 2010
By Steven Turturro I used these all through out the USMC. They work great as a regular notebook. But with the waterproof paper you can use it for so many other things. I remember my truck's power steering blew. Not being a mechanic all I could do was fill it and head back to get it fixed. Not having a funnel and being in the middle of Iraq with a broken truck, I took 2 pieces of paper from my book and taped it into a funnel. The paper held up so well I kept it for when ever I needed it.
Now I use one for all my camping and survival notes.

It Really Does Work Jan 18, 2011
By Jed I just used one of these to take field notes during a small, wet snowstorm. I used a pencil, per the instructions, and it worked great. It would have been impossible to do this with a conventional notebook. I'm glad that I remembered to take it along.

Great product May 26, 2011
By yakpakreviewer Works better than expected, water just beads off. I use it to keep track of productive fishing patterns on different bodies of water.

Great product Aug 15, 2011
By benji Rite in the Rain makes an outstanding product. I bought a small notebook to keep in my jacket pocket when I was in basic and it is still in perfect condition. I use it to keep all my notes. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because you really do need a rite in the rain pen (or a pencil) in order for the paper to pick it up properly, other pens will work just not as easily. I actually went to their website and ordered a bunch of stuff for my upcoming deployment. I ordered a planner and a couple extra pens, paper and a notebook. If you are military and contact them they will give you discounts of up to 60%. I saved close to $100 bucks going this route. I phoned in my order and it was tax free and no charge for shipping. This is a company that seriously supports the military and offers an amazing product. If you have a military email address, go to their website and give them a call.

Great idea - I put them in our 72-hour bags Apr 24, 2012

I saw these notebooks reviewed in an outdoors magazine and was happy to find them on Amazon, inexpensively priced and with free shipping. I ordered two of them in order to have one in our camping gear and one in our 72-hour emergency bag. I rubber-banded a pencil to each one, since pencils work better than ink pens or markers on this type of paper. We always have a pocket knife handy, so sharpening a pencil won't be an issue.
I haven't tried them out in the rain yet, but I did sprinkle a little water on one of the pages and it beaded up and didn't soak in. A pencil wrote nicely on the paper even after the water treatment. Be sure to use a #2 or softer leaded pencil - a hard tip wouldn't write as well on the paper, which feels a little waxy.
These notebooks would be useful in all types of outdoorsy situations - drawing a map of a hunting area, letterboxing or geocaching, leaving a note for someone if you have to leave camp and can't use a cell phone, after a fender bender when you have to get out in the rain to exchange info with the other driver, and even for birdwatching notes. I like that they are spiral bound and a pleasant green color.
