Excellent hiking companion Feb 20, 2005
By airfirehorse I've had my Angler for over a year now. I bought it at a Kiosk in a mall, but Amazon's prices are much better (i paid about $80 at the time).
I have used the compass often during hiking, but the temperature gauge seems to be off most of the time. I think this may be because it hangs from my belt loop and rubs on my pants, making it a higher temperature than ambient. I'm not sure how Dakota could've fixed that issue. It keeps excellent time, but when the batteries go dead i will be forced to go to one of those kiosks for help in opening the back because it seems to be impossible. I suspect they have a special tool for that.
The "Date" and other functions blink constantly so at first i thought the battery was nearly dead. I don't think it should blink. A steady on "Date", "Timer", etc. would have been good enough. The red LED (to be used almost like a flashlight) is very bright in the dark and it also has a light for the digital time area. The glow in the dark aspect is barely visible. I can't really tell the time without the light on.
My Angler got scratched very early on. I think the glass is a little sensitive. Maybe they could coat the glass with protection to avoid that. The whole "watch" has a very solid feel (it's heavy) and it's never been dented on the metal even though i hike and climb with it often. I think it's worth having for those of use who enjoy a sturdy, outdoor, multi-function timekeeper.

A good turtle always has a shell! Aug 08, 2007
By cyclopsamurai Well, this is a fantastic product. Everything's great on it, in it, and with it. I just wish I could protect the crystal from scratches and I thought the light was going to be white. Red light is applicable, however, at many times. LCD light is rather dim, but I would buy another one with a grin... again... and again!! A great (Jack Nicolson as the) Joker product!! Perfect if you fish or don't care for wristwatches.
Looks great, but marginally functional accessories May 05, 2013
By jherd Nice looking watch, which might be made for anglers, but I wear as an everyday belt loop watch. The watch itself looks good, and keeps good time so far (3 months). Its a bit heavy, but I'm hopeful this means durable. 3 stars comes from the added features, which must be what pushes the cost of this watch up a bit. The compass hasn't worked from day 1. Sitting here writing this and the North is pointing due South from my kitchen. The temp dial on the back might work, but its so dark and small, I'd need to carry a hand lens and flashlight to read it. The chrono/date digital is also very small, and the backlight in it doesn't illuminate enough to read it unless you take it off and hold it up at the perfect angle. I guess if I'm carrying a magnifying glass to read the thermometer, I can use it for the chrono as well. Buy this watch for its looks, not the features it comes with.
Great Watch Mar 06, 2013
By Buck The compass is weak (very easily influenced by any metal that may be around, and yes, that does include electronics.) and the illumination (isn't led back-lit) for the digital display, makes it difficult , but possible, to see the display. The thermometer seems to be pretty accurate but haven't water tested to see accuracy. Other than that, it is an awesome watch and I will certainly be buying another one for myself!
camping or fishing Dec 27, 2012

This is a good watch to keep with camping or fishing gear. It snaps onto most anything carried with campers or fishermen.
